“A solar PV panel consists of many cells made from layers of semi-conducting material, most commonly silicon. When light shines on this material, a flow of electricity is created. The cells don’t need direct sunlight to work and can even work on cloudy days. However, the stronger the sunshine, the more electricity generated. Solar PV systems are made up of several panels, with each panel generating energy in sunlight. Typical systems contain around 8 panels and generate direct current (DC) electricity. Because the electricity used for household appliances is alternating current (AC), an inverter is installed along with the system to convert DC electricity to AC. This electricity can be used throughout your home, or exported to the grid”.

NACO: Tell us a bit about you and your company?

LANCE: We were established in 2017 to support the ECO funding that was available to home owners this continued into the grant funded government insulation initiative, prior to this the directors worked in the energy industry both commercial and residential. The switch to solar came as a natural progression from this.

NACO: What sets you guys apart?

LANCE: We are the only solar PV installer we are aware of, that actively looks for Park Homes that require solar. Our Technical Director, Tom Hickey, is one of the senior solar installers in the UK with over 15 years experience in Solar PV, we are driven to provide the best we can for our customers sadly so is everyone else.

NACO: What sort of differences are there between a standard home installation and a park home?

LANCE: The major differences are the roof tile type in that park homes are low pitched, limited loft space and often fitted with DECRA roof systems that are exclusive to them, added to this not all homes pay there electricity bill to an energy company that is to say their meters are read by park home management who arrange their billing.

NACO: Could this system be installed on a holiday caravan?

LANCE: Probably not as the roof would not have the internal support to carry the additional weight and give purchase to fixings.

NACO: What sort of installation cost is it likely to be?

LANCE: The solar solution we offer starts at £3,600 for a 2.4kwh system (6 panels)

NACO: How long does a standard installation take?

LANCE: Generally speaking we would look to install a park home in less than a day most of our installers work in teams of two, to install a standard home this would take a day.

NACO: What is solar PV?

LANCE: Photovoltaic solar is (broadly speaking) the transition of solar rays into electricity (DC). This is then converted to AC via an inverter and this power is then fed directly into the home’s consumer unit so as to power the home. Panels now produce 410watts and our average install is 10 panels due to available roof space. That said, I have 32 on my property, obviously the more the merrier. The option of battery storage is very popular at the moment and, though expensive, gives you more versatility particularly if you are out of the house during the hours of sunshine.

Fully funded systems are available in certain areas – Please contact us for further information
